Mwalimu Josephat Omune Odongo, Chairman, Grassroots Impact Centre-GIC; is a career school teacher having headed two of the most prominent public primary schools in Nyakach Sub-County, namely, Agai (as Deputy) and Sondu Union-as Head-for a combined period of 20 years.
A holder of Diploma in Management, Josephat also served a 6,000 member strong Kisumu County based SACCO for more than 10 years, rising through the ranks from the post of delegate to Hon. Secretary and ultimately, the chairman. During that period, Josephat also served as a Cop-Bank of Kenya and Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives-KUSCCO national delegate,
At a teaching career spanning more than 3 decades-1979 to 2015-Josephat is particularly humbled by the tremendous growth of the people he has mentored, and the direct impact these people have made within communities that surround them.
Nearly all the staff that served with him studied on the job and attained degrees, with at least one of them, Dr. Doughty Onyango, holding a PhD in Education presently. Josephat delights in hundreds of his former students serving in the private and public sectors here in Kenya and abroad, who are working with their local communities to raise standards of living of those within their respective localities.
Mwalimu serves in various Boards in Nyakach Sub-County, and most passionately as a Peace Ambassador within various regions in Nyakach and its neighborhood. He aspires to remain focused on empowering young people to believe in themselves and make the best of God’s greatest gift-time.
