About Grassroot Impact Centre!

The Grassroot Impact Centre (GIC) is Community Based Organization based in Nyakach, in Kisumu Couty within the greater Lake Victoria Region Economic Block (LREB). The Centre recognizes that knowledge plays a key role in poverty reduction, societal empowerment, and sustainable development. The lake region where the GIC is located constitutes a significant portion of Kenya’s population, natural and human resource base. The region, however, remains a major hotspot where poverty, deteriorating education are negatively impacting on the welfare of residents and the country at large.  Empowerment through education, knowledge use and mentorship remain a key hope for the future development of the region. Nonetheless, the sustainable development of the community is threatened as many talented and promising young boys and girls fail to realize their full potential especially due to: 1) poverty that limits ability of many talented and bright students to remain in school and participate fully in educational activities 2) a lack of mentorship platform where promising students can be mentored and encouraged and also made to interact and learn from successful people from the society. New challenges have also emerged including lack of employment, drug abuse, inter-clan or ethnic conflicts, gender violence amongst others.

Background

Grassroot Impact Center is an initiative dedicated to empowering communities through knowledge, operating under the mission to foster sustainable development and positive change at grassroot level.
