Through a utopian proposal, ‘Rethinking Peace in Sondu’ by Dr Jonah Atela- Founder of GIC, led several informative dialogues between different groups from both Kericho and Nyakach. We convened one of the largest elders meeting at the Holo Hall bringing together more than 150 elders including Chairs of Council of Elders from both sides. Youths from both sides were trained on IT and several mentorship talks were convened. All these culminated in one of the biggest intercultu ral events at Kamolok where elders from both sides signed a peace accord. The youths played games and we gave awards, people sang, ate danced, shook hands etc. 

These efforts bore fruits as we had a very peaceful co-existence between the two communities before, during and after elections.

On 17th October 2023, GIC had a fruitful engagement in Sondu over the last few days. Through that we managed to visit various camps and sites where victims are hosted. We also held discussions with various stakeholders groups including the clergy on how to craft a long term solution for the Sondu border clashes. The situation of violence was disheartening and discouraging given all the efforts made.

The Grassroot Impact Center team was in Katito on Saturday 23-9-2023 to engage the Clergy of northern Nyakach in harnessing peace in Sondu (Nyakach)-Sigowet border.
